First International Conference on Local history of Mazandaran
The Fifth Local History Gathering in Iran

February 2015
Iran’s colorful ethnicities, geographic regions and administrative divisions of the country, represent its various horizons in the course of time. Paying attention to all these issues, simultaneously, is not in one’s power, neither do circumstances nor time limits permit this. From another point of view, local / regional study expects to refine and deepen its focus in the form of location, time and alsotheir political, administrative divisions. The scientific-historical extractions and reflections in thisfield have facilitated the countries micro and macro planners. Moreover, time has shown that identifying the spatial identity of Iran’s geographical politics essentially needs mechanisms such as those for control over resources, culture as well as unique twists to any position identified in the local format. Thus, the focus of this meeting is on the Caspian region, as a rich case study, is a model for discussing both its longitudinal and lateral relations. The past of Mazandaran, throughout its history suggests that this region, from the distant past up until the modern era, reaching out right through to the contemporary times has been effective in the national geographic and political structure. Although the administrative and political divisions, in various eras, have constantly touched the regional body of this area, at times either limiting or extending it. . This opportunity lends us this occasion to represent, reconstruct and re-read both the far and near past of Mazandaran, in various areas regarding the following general topics:
• Methodology and Local History
• Sources and Documents of Local History

Dr.Nikoloz Nakhutsrishvili، Contact Address: Prof. George Sanikidze, Dr. Nikoloz Nakhutsrishvili Ilia State University, G.Tsereteli Institute of Oriental Studies Tbilisi, Georgia Mazandarani Studies In Georgia – the Past, Present and Perspectives Iranian studies in Georgia has nearly a century-old history. The realm of interests of Georgian iranologists covers a lot of problems and among them the history of Georgians, residing in Iran, their mode of life and language. Research into all these problems calls for integration and correlation of Iranological and Kartvelological (Georgian Studies) investigation data. It should be pointed out that the studies carried out along this line has been mainly focused on Georgians living in Isfahan province as a certain part of them retained their language in the form of so called Fereidan dialect of Georgian language up to date. The complete bibliography of books and articles about Georgians of Fereidan in Georgian language is already available in Georgia; Of less concern for Georgian scientists have been Georgians living in some other regions, among them those residing in Mazandaran, who nowadays lost Georgian language. Yet, neither in Georgia nor in Iran have been carried out comprehensive studies in Mazandarani Georgians’ speech and mode of life taking into account Georgian language and cultural factors. In the present paper attempts are made to outline the scientific literature available in Georgia dealing with Mazandaran in general and Mazandarani Georgians in particular. With regard to the problem there are also considered those perspective trends of future researches which need close collaboration of corresponding Georgian and Iranian scientific centers.
